Wash
Arts is proud of its outstanding group of instructors, all working in
their artistic discipline with local, regional and national honors. From
Advanced Drawing with Gold Medal Winning Artist, Jeff Katrencik,
to Acting and Voice with stage actress, Jen Luta and Dance with performer
and director, Christina Lee, our classes focus on quality and learning
technique, rather than flashy production. "No competitions"
is a Wash Arts motto. Our students study to be their own personal best,
without judging or measuring to others standards.
In the fall of 2003, we launched a Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design Program
under the direction of fine artist, Dickens Bishop, which
offers adults the most comprehensive instruction in the region.
Potter in residence, Judy Hopson, shares her passion
for clay with students ages 6 through Adult. Hand-building and instruction
on the wheel available, as well as the latest in glazing techniques.
Sandee Gertz Umbach, a published poet with national awards
leads teen Poetry Workshops for students and in Creative Expression Programs
for troubled youth. An anthology of student work has been published and
students have the opportunity to read their work in events and special
poetry readings.
Rueben Brock, a noted musician and record producer, leads
a unique curriculum of Creative Expression Sessions and MIDI music production
for at-risk youth, as well as a course that combines written expression
with photography.
Anna Ciccola leads our Piano Instruction for young children.
Christina Lee leads our growing Dance Program, including
classes in ballet, tap, jazz, swing/salsa and hip hop. Christina also
leads our “Little Da Vinci's” courses for ages 4-6 and fun
Parent and Tot classes, along with Yoga!
Fiber Artist and historian, Bonnie Sanford, teaches textile
courses in Basketweaving, Sewing, Design, Weaving and more for all generations!
Jen Luta, actress and vocalist, leads our Theater and
Voice Program and has pioneered the addition of full stage productions
for our Advanced Actors in Broadway Bound.
Singer/songwriter and recording artist, Tom Breiding,
leads a dynamic Songwriting Class for youth. Bring your guitar if you
like!
Professional musician, Dan Baker, leads our group lessons
in Guitar for Beginner and Advanced students and is developing ensemble
performing groups.
Wash Arts’ other Instrumental Lessons include Clarinet with Crystal
Pesula, and Flute with Mary McBride, principal
flutist with the Washington Symphony Orchestra. Saxophone and trumpet
lessons are also available.
Local artist, Rachel Barnyak, has recently joined Wash
Arts’ to lead courses in watercolor and more!
Art educator, Patti Calderone leads our Junior Picasso’s
class where children learn the history behind art as well as enjoy ample
studio time to create unique works of art.
